When you travel on vacation this this summer, do yourself, and your family a favor and listen audio books as you go. I remember when my kids were little, listening to Just as I Am by Billy Graham all the way to Florida. They never wanted to leave the car. The thing about listening to a book is that you can see it with the eyes of your heart, which is better than any movie. I subscribe to and it is well-worth the ten bucks a month. It is a great way to get a book in you if you are doing something like walking or working on a project. Here are a few that I have enjoyed or found to be helpful in some way:

FOR THE GLORY: Eric Liddell's Journey from Olympic Champion to Modern Martyr

This was one of the best books I have listened to, choking up often upon hearing what Christian character looks like. It inspired me to be more Christ-like. The chapter on the famous race in France alone is worth the price of the book. Amazing!

by Jim Cymbala

This is the story about a church that learned to pray… and became one of the great churches in America.

PROPHET ON PURPOSE– The life story of Rick Warren – an amazing story of God’s grace. Rick has a great heart. This books show how God raised him up and uses him in the most remarkable way.

THE DANIEL PLAN– by Rick Warren

This is such a great health plan. So well written and presented. Everyone should do it.

LIVING A LIFE ON FIRE– the autobiography of Reinhart Bonnke

This story is nothing short of amazing, showing how God can do things on a scale that is difficult to imagine. This is a real faith booster.

Two really good books were written by Dale Carnegie. One was HOW TO STOP WORRYING AND START LIVING and the other was HOW TO WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE. Both books were a bit outdated in some ways, but they were a real inspiration non-the-less. This has been one of the best books I have come across about how to do with fear and worry in our lives.

Narrated by: John E. Sarno

Length: 3 hrs and 23 mins

I am not sure what to even say about this book, as it was so impacting. It is full of insights into how we function as humans in terms of managing our stress, which comes from suppressing our fears, anger, and resentments which Dr. Sarno shows is the real source of our many infirmities. It is not a “Christian book”, but the author is clearly an man of great integrity. All I know is that everyone should listen to it.

This is a great book about Lincoln, early American history, politics, and the Civil War, but it is perhaps the best book I have read that contrasts pride and humility.

This book was a delight to listen to. I had read it many times, as it has many layers to it, but it came alive to me in a fresh way as I listened to it. This is one of the top ten best books I have come across.

I found this book to be moving on a number of levels. I love anything pertaining to engineering and inventing, but it was an inspiration to me to read about their character in adversity.

I loved this book for many reasons, as it filled in so many gaps in my understanding of American History. It made me marvel at what man can do through strong character and ingenuity. You will never view New York City the same afterwards.
